LAX GATEWAY PYLONS TO GO DARK IN SUPPORT OF INTERNATIONAL EARTH HOUR, SATURDAY, MARCH 27
     (Los Angeles, California – March 25, 2010) - The 100-foot-tall LAX Gateway pylons that illuminate the entrance to Los AngelesInternationalAirport (LAX), will light solid green one hour before Earth Hour on Saturday, March 27.  Then, during Earth Hour, from 8:30 to 9:30 p.m., the pylons will be turned off as part of a coordinated worldwide effort to raise public awareness of climate change and the need for energy conservation.

LOS ANGELES WORLD AIRPORTS EXECUTIVE ENCOURAGES CONGRESS TO RE-EXAMINE AIRPORT FUNDING FORMULAS
    Changes in how federal funds are allocated to U.S. airports will help airports better leverage their revenues so they can reinvest in their facilities, many of which are in a decades-long state of “deferred maintenance,” a Los Angeles airport official told a Congressional committee today.

NEW LIVING WAGE DETERMINATION: APPLICABILITY TO ALL INDUSTRY-SPECIFIC SERVICES TO OR FOR LAWA
(Los Angeles, California – March 10, 2010) The Bureau of Contract Administration (BCA) has determined that there is a proprietary interest in applying LWO to all airport employees who provide industry-specific services to or for LAWA.  In effect, this determination broadens coverage to include airport employee classifications whose work occurs in non-public and/or secure areas since their work 1) impacts the public’s perceptions of services at LAWA or 2) maintains airport security.

LOS ANGELES AIRPORT POLICE OFFICER THOMAS DYE RECEIVES COMMENDATIONS FOR ESTABLISHING HONOR GUARD DETAIL FOR RETURN OF FALLEN SOLDIERS
(Los Angeles, California – March 10, 2010)  Los Angeles Airport Police Officer Thomas Dye of the Patrol Services Section was recently commended for his efforts to establish the Los Angeles Airport Police Honor Guard Detail for the return of fallen soldiers.  He was honored in early March during the Westchester Elks Lodge’s Law Enforcement Appreciation Night.

LOS ANGELES WORLD AIRPORTS RECEIVES AWARD OF EXCELLENCE FOR USE OF ENVIRONMENTALLY FRIENDLY CONCRETE

   

 (Los Angeles, California – March 9, 2010) Los Angeles World Airports (LAWA) is recipient of the Excellence in Concrete Award presented annually by the Southern California chapter of the American Concrete Institute in recognition of “excellence in environmental usage of concrete on the Los AngelesInternationalAirport (LAX) Crossfield Taxiway Project.”  As part of the project, a 1,600-space parking lot was constructed to accommodate airline tenants who were being displaced by the new taxiway.
