LOS ANGELES AIRPORT EXPERIENCE GETS POSITIVE RATING FROM PASSENGERS
(Los Angeles, California -- April 5, 2002) The overall experience at Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) was rated positive by 77 percent of departing passengers, according to a survey released today that was conducted at the airport throughout the month of February.

INTERNATIONAL AVIATION LEADER CLIFTON MOORE DIES AT 80; "MR. AIRPORT" LED LOS ANGELES AIRPORTS DEPARTMENT 25 YEARS
(Lancaster, California -- April 3, 2002) Clifton Albert Moore, nicknamed "Mr. Airport" for his leadership in civil aviation both in Southern California and around the world, and who served for 25 years as executive director of Los Angeles City's vast four-airport system, died yesterday. He was 80 and living in retirement in Lancaster, California.

LOS ANGELES INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT ANNOUNCES SUMMER AVIATION PROGRAM FOR MIDDLE AND HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS

(Los Angeles, California -- April 2, 2002) Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) and its business and community partners have joined forces to host three free, week-long educational programs for local-area seventh and eighth-grade and high school students to provide an introduction to careers in aviation. The Junior Aviation Career Education (ACE Academy) for middle school students is scheduled Monday, July 15, through Friday, July 19; and the High School ACE Academy is scheduled for Monday, July 29 through Friday, August 2. If there is enough demand, another week will be held Monday, August 12 - Friday, August 16.

BOARD OF AIRPORT COMMISSIONERS APPROVE AWARD OF CONTRACT FOR ONTARIO INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT MASTER PLAN
(Ontario, California - March 19, 2002) The Los Angeles Board of Airport Commissioners today approved an award of contract to HNTB Corporation, Los Angeles, to develop a master plan for Ontario International Airport (ONT). The contract includes development of the ONT Master Plan in three phases at an estimated total cost of $3.9 million.

AIRPORT COMMISSION APPROVES DRAFT COOPERATIVE AGREEMENT GRANTING 309-ACRE EASEMENT FOR STATE ROUTE 138 BYPASS IN PALMDALE
(Los Angeles, California - March 6, 2002) The Los Angeles Board of Airport Commissioners has approved a draft cooperative agreement with the State of California Department of Transportation (CalTrans) that grants an easement for constructing the State Route 138 bypass in the City of Palmdale. The agreement will be for a period of 25 years, and is subject to an extension of an additional 25 years.

LOS ANGELES AIRPORT TO SELL, RELOCATE NOISE-IMPACTED HOMES TO NON-PROFITS FOR AFFORDABLE HOUSING
(Los Angeles, California -March 5, 2002) The Los Angeles Board of Airport Commissioners today approved the sale of noise-impacted residential dwellings to qualified non-profit (Internal Revenue Code 501c3) organizations participating in Los Angeles World Airports’ (LAWA's) Move on Housing Program. The program is designed to address the shortage of affordable housing in Los Angeles. Rather than demolish single- and multi-family residences purchased under LAWA’s Voluntary Residential Acquisition Program, the structures will be relocated and rehabilitated.

LAX COMMENTS ON TERMINAL EVACUATIONS
Los Angeles, California -- February 28, 2002) At 6:30 this morning, Los Angeles International Airport Police and the airlines began evacuating Terminals 4, 5, 6, 7, and 8 because one of the metal detectors at the Terminal 4 passenger screening area under the oversight of the federal Transportation Security Administration (TSA) was not functioning properly. This follows LAX's security procedures when it is learned that people have entered the secured areas without proper security screening.

AIRPORT OFFICIAL ORDERS CLOSURE OF TUNNELS CONNECTING SOUTHSIDE PASSENGER TERMINALS AT LOS ANGELES AIRPORT

 

(Los Angeles, California -- February 28, 2002) Los Angeles World Airports Executive Director Lydia H. Kennard today directed the closure of two connecting tunnels between southside passenger terminals at Los Angeles World Airports. This action is being taken based upon the preliminary review of today's multiple-terminal evacuation and is in the best interest of the traveling public by precluding future evacuations should a security breach occur at one of these terminals.
