U. S. COURT OF APPEALS DECISION ALLOWS ENFORCEMENT OF NON-SOLICITATION OF FUNDS POLICY AT LOS ANGELES INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT
Los Angeles Mayor Antonio R. Villaraigosa and airport officials are pleased with a mandate issued by the United States Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals lifting a preliminary injunction, imposed in 1997, that allows Los Angeles Airport Police to begin enforcement of a Los Angeles City ordinance prohibiting solicitation and immediate receipt of funds in the terminals, parking areas, and adjacent sidewalks at Los Angeles International Airport (LAX).

(Los Angeles, California – September 3, 2010)  Los Angeles World Airports (LAWA) in partnership with the Department on Disability and Department of Cultural Affairs commemorates the 20th anniversary of the signing of the Americans With Disabilities Act (ADA), with a new art exhibit of paintings and mixed media artworks by 18 Southern California artists living with disabilities on display at Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) in the Connector Hall between Terminals 2 and 3 on the Upper/Departures Level.

LAWA RESPONSE TO INQUIRIES REGARDING AIRPORT POLICE OFFICER BEHAVIOR AT LAX PASSENGER SCREENING STATION PODIUMS
The following is a response by Los Angeles World Airports officials to inquiries generated by a local radio station’s airing segments today alleging that Los Angeles Airport Police officers are not performing their duties while assigned to podiums located adjacent to the federal passenger security screening stations inside each terminal at Los  Angeles International Airport (LAX).

LOS ANGELES INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT CONTINUES LOW CRIME LEVELS
Major crime continues to be almost non-existent at Los AngelesInternationalAirport (LAX), according to statistics covering the first six months of 2010 released today by Los Angeles Airport Police.  Total number of crimes also decreased six percent to 1,146 incidents during the first six months of 2010 from 1,222 incidents reported during the same period in 2009.

LOS ANGELES AIRPORT POLICE SWEARS IN NEW POLICE OFFICER

(Los Angeles, California – August 13, 2010)   One police officer is joining the ranks of the Los Angeles Airport Police following the August 13th graduation from the Los Angeles PoliceAcademy. 

            Los Angeles Airport Police Chief George R. Centeno performed the swearing in of graduate Elizabeth Sanchez who was selected as a color guard to post colors on graduation day.

UC SCIENTIST SEEKS LEGLESS LIZARD SPECIMENS IN LAX DUNES

 (Los Angeles, California – August 2, 2010)  Dr. Theodore J. Papenfuss, a research scientist from the UC Berkeley Museum of Zoology visited LAX recently to gather specimens of the California legless lizard. 

 

            The lizards, which are located in the northern El Segundo/LAX Dunes area, are identified by the State of California as a species of special concern.

LOS ANGELES INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT REPORTS PASSENGER LEVEL UP 4.8 PERCENT DURING FIRST HALF OF 2010
(Los Angeles, California – July 29, 2010)  Los AngelesInternationalAirport(LAX) officials reported today that total passengers during the first six months of 2010 rose 4.9 percent to 28,266,657 passengers from 26,959,999 during the same period last year.
