LA TOURISM AND LOS ANGELES WORLD AIRPORTS SHOWCASE NEW LAX TERMINAL WITH FLOAT IN 2013 ROSE PARADE
  More than 7,000 fragrant roses and nearly 5,000 carnations will adorn a float created by the Los Angeles Tourism & Convention Board (LA Tourism) and Los Angeles World Airports (LAWA) to replicate the $1.5-billion New Tom Bradley International Terminal opening in 2013, when the 124th Annual 2013 Pasadena Tournament of Roses Parade steps off on January 1, 2013.

LAX FLYAWAY® BUS STOP AT UNION STATION TO BE TEMPORARILY RELOCATED
(Los Angeles, California – December 24, 2012) Riders who use the LAX FlyAway® service at Union Station are being notified that the bus stop will be temporarily relocated on December 29, January 5, January 12 and January 26 to the Amtrak Thruway Bus Station to accommodate a planned renovation project.

LAX AND AIRLINE OFFICIALS REMIND TRAVELERS THAT FREE WHEELCHAIR SERVICES RESERVED FOR PASSENGERS WITH DISABILITIES OR MOBILITY ISSUES
(Los Angeles, California – December 21, 2012)  With nearly 2.24 million travelers expected to pass through Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) during the 13-day holiday travel period that begins today, airport and airline officials want to remind passengers that wheelchair services offered free by the airlines to their passengers should be reserved for persons with disabilities and senior citizens with mobility issues.  These services are intended to provide equal access to those who would have difficulty getting to and from an aircraft due to medical needs.

2.24 MILLION PASSENGERS EXPECTED AT LAX DURING HOLIDAY SEASON; 5.38 PERCENT INCREASE OVER LAST YEAR
(Los Angeles, California – December 20, 2012)  Passenger volume at Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) is expected to increase 5.38 percent to nearly 2.24 million passengers this upcoming holiday travel season, compared to 2.13 million actual passengers last year.  The 13-day holiday travel period begins Friday, December 21, and continues through Wednesday, January 2, 2013.

SITES PROPOSED FOR METRO LIGHT RAIL DIRECT CONNECTION TO LOS ANGELES INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT TERMINALS
 Los Angeles World Airports (LAWA) staff today announced its “strong commitment and desire” for the Los Angeles County Metropolitan Transportation Authority (Metro) to locate a Metro light rail station directly at Los Angeles International Airport (LAX).  To support this proposal, LAWA has committed to provide scarce airport property located west of Sepulveda Boulevard on the east end of the Central Terminal Area (CTA) to create the opportunity for an on-airport Metro light rail station.

TWENTY AIRPORT POLICE CADETS GRADUATE LAPD CADET ACADEMY
(Los Angeles, California – December 14, 2012) Twenty Los Angeles Airport Police cadets, ranging in ages 13 to 19, will graduate from the Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD) Cadet Academy Program.  The cadets will be sworn in during a ceremony beginning 11 a.m. on Sunday, December 16, at the University of Southern California’s Galen Center, 3400 Figueroa Street, Los Angeles.

LUFTHANSA BRINGS FIRST-EVER BOEING 747-8 INTERCONTINENTAL PASSENGER SERVICE TO U.S. WEST COAST AT LAX
(Los Angeles, California – December 11, 2012) Lufthansa initiated commercial service Monday of the Boeing 747-8 Intercontinental along the airline’s Frankfurt (FRA) to Los Angeles (LAX) route.  Flight LH456 departed Frankfurt touched down at LAX at 1:15 p.m.  The City of Angels is just the second destination in the U.S. and fourth in the world designated for service of the new jumbo jet.  The regularly-scheduled return flight, LH457, departed LAX at 3:45 p.m. arriving in Frankfurt shortly after 11 a.m. the following day.  Lufthansa’s newest flagship aircraft will provide daily service between the two cities, increasing capacity on this route by 17 percent.

AIRPORT STAFF IDENTIFIES RECOMMENDED LAX SPECIFIC PLAN AMENDMENT STUDY ALTERNATIVE
(Los Angeles, California – December 3, 2012)  The Los Angeles Board of Airport Commissioners (BOAC) was presented today with staff-recommended alternatives, based on the ongoing Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) Specific Plan Amendment Study (SPAS) Report and the Draft SPAS Environmental Impact Report (EIR).  The SPAS identifies potential amendments to the LAX Specific Plan for the modernization and improvement of LAX in a manner designed for a practical capacity of 78.9 million annual passengers, while enhancing safety and security, minimizing environmental impacts on surrounding communities, and creating conditions that encourage airlines to use other airports in the region.
