LAX PUP PROGRAM CELEBRATES ONE-YEAR ANNIVERSARY OF FOUR-LEGGED AMBASSADORS
(Los Angeles, California – April 17, 2014)  On November 2, 2013, passengers inside Terminal 3 at Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) were wary and tense as Finn strode in just one day after a gunman had opened fire, killing a Transportation Security Administration screening officer.  As Finn moved in and out of the boarding gate areas, the mood quickly shifted as passengers began to relax and smile at the giant therapy dog.

VOLARIS BEGINS SERVICE FROM ONTARIO INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT TO GUADALAJARA, MEXICO THIS SPRING

(Ontario, California – April 2, 2014)  Volaris will begin twice-weekly service between Ontario International Airport (ONT) and Guadalajara starting April 10.

“This is very exciting since it’s the first time Volaris will serve ONT,” said ONT’s manager Jess Romo.  “International travelers will have more options when flying to Mexico.  We look forward to partnering with Volaris and having another international carrier at ONT.”

SAUDIA INAUGURATES SERVICE AT LOS ANGELES INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT WITH THE ONLY NONSTOP FLIGHT BETWEEN LOS ANGELES AND SAUDI ARABIA
  (Los Angeles, California – April 1, 2014) Saudi Arabian Airlines (Saudia), the flag carrier airline of Saudi Arabia, inaugurates service at Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) with the only nonstop flight between Los Angeles and Saudi Arabia. The three days per week service to Jeddah operates on new Boeing 777-300ER aircraft featuring a three-class cabin configuration, the first-of-its-type.

LAX GATEWAY PYLONS TO GO DARK IN SUPPORT OF INTERNATIONAL EARTH HOUR

WHAT:            The 100-foot-tall LAX Gateway pylons that illuminate the entrance to Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) will light solid green one hour before Earth Hour on Saturday,  March 29.  Then, during Earth Hour from 8:30 to 9:30 p.m., the pylons will be turned off as part of a coordinated worldwide effort to raise public awareness of the need for energy conservation.

LAX JOINT CRIME TASK FORCE ARRESTS SUSPECTS FOR THEFTS AT LAX

  (UPDATE:  Following the service of 25 search warrants, the LAX Joint Crime Task Force detained 14 people for questioning.  A total of six arrests were made, four for receiving stolen property and two for outstanding warrants. 

            This is an ongoing investigation and will likely result in additional arrests.  Detectives will now work to link those arrested to specific theft cases, which is expected to clear many of the open theft investigations.)

 

The LAX Joint Crime Task Force (LAX-CTF), comprised of Los Angeles Airport Police and Los Angeles Police Department detectives, today served 25 search warrants following an ongoing investigation into property stolen from passengers’ luggage or directly from aircraft at Los Angeles International Airport (LAX).  Numerous items were recovered during the service of search warrants and arrests.

ASSEMBLY BILL TO UPGRADE PEACE OFFICER STATUS FOR LOS ANGELES AIRPORT POLICE SIGNED AND APPROVED BY STATE LEGISLATURE AND GOVERNER
(Los Angeles, California – March 25, 2014) In October 2013, Assembly Bill 128 was approved by the California State legislature and signed by Governor Jerry Brown.  The legislation gives Los Angeles Airport Police Officers the same policing powers as municipal law enforcement agencies like the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department, Los Angeles Port Police and Los Angeles Police Department.

LOS ANGELES AIRPORT POLICE SWEARS IN TWO POLICE OFFICERS

(Los Angeles, California – March 21, 2014) Today’s graduation ceremony held at the Los Angeles Police Academy at Elysian Park marked the start of a career with the Los Angeles Airport Police Division for Officers Blare Bergman and Rafaela Faulkner.

Among the 25 graduates of Class 10-13, Class Treasurer Officer Blare Bergman and Class Secretary Officer Rafaela Faulkner, were both selected by their classmates.

AIRPORT POLICE SOFTBALL TEAM “BRAVO TANGO’ WINS TROPHY IN FIRST SOUTHWEST AIRLINES SOFTBALL TOURNAMENT

  (Los Angeles, California – March 18, 2014)  Los Angeles World Airports (LAWA) officials today released a report on the response and recovery efforts following the November 1, 2013, active-shooter incident and resulting disruption at Los Angeles International Airport (LAX).  Suspect Paul Ciancia shot and killed Transportation Security Administration (TSA) Security Officer Gerardo Hernandez, and wounded a passenger and two other TSA officers inside Terminal 3.

AIRPORT POLICE SERGEANTS GRADUATE FROM SHERMAN BLOCK SUPERVISORY LEADERSHIP INSTITUTE
(Los Angeles, California – February 12, 2014) Five Los Angeles Airport Police Sergeants recently graduated from the Sherman Block Supervisory Leadership Institute (SBSLI). Sergeants Troye Holmes, a 24-year veteran of the Airport Police Division; Martha Hall with 22 years of service; Robert Richardson with 30 years; and Marlo Richardson and Anthony Boisselle, both with 15 years on the force; each completed the intensive leadership development program and participated in commencement ceremonies.
